SPS Coronavirus Update

Dear Volunteers,

Please see the most recent update from the Springfield Public Schools regarding the Coronavirus (COVID-19) below. Please take particular note of the third bullet in reference to volunteers. We will keep you posted about when your volunteer work can resume as we receive further updates. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact SSV.

The ever-evolving nature of the COVID-19 pandemic causes new questions and scenarios to surface daily. SPS planning and response is ongoing and further guidance will continue to be forthcoming. Below please find the latest announcement regarding program cancellations in the schools.

– All home visits are cancelled until further notice.

– All SCDM and PTO meetings are cancelled until further notice.

– All Springfield School Volunteers are cancelled until further notice.

– All non-school related building permits are cancelled until further notice.

– School-based After-school and Saturday programs HAVE NOT been cancelled.

– Service providers will continue or discontinue to provide their services to schools on a case-by-case basis determined by the school principal. Service providers who continue to work in schools must ensure that their service staffs are adhering to infectious disease control and prevention measures as described by the Centers for Disease Control and Massachusetts Department of Public Health (i.e.: washing hands often and with soap and water for at least 20 seconds; covering your nose and mouth when you cough or sneeze; avoid touching your eyes; and staying home if sick especially with a fever; travelers returning from countries with a Level 3 alert should stay home and monitor their health for 14 days after returning to the US; no foreign travel and restricted domestic travel).

– Current practicum students and students with AmeriCorps and similar programs may continue to work in our schools as long as those students adhere to the infectious disease control and prevention measures as described by the Centers for Disease Control and Massachusetts Department of Public Health (i.e.: washing hands often and with soap and water for at least 20 seconds; covering your nose and mouth when you cough or sneeze; avoid touching your eyes; and staying home if sick especially with a fever; travelers returning from countries with a Level 3 alert should stay home and monitor their health for 14 days after returning to the US; no foreign travel and restricted domestic travel). However, schools are not accepting new practicum, AmeriCorps or students of similar programs until further notice.
