SSV Offers Free Remote Summer Literacy Program

The Virtual Book Club is a brand new program that took its inspiration from SSV’s popular Read Aloud Program. This program will encourage social connections and provide students with opportunities to have comprehensive discussions surrounding texts and engage in fun, academic learning activities with volunteers and other students of similar grade levels. At least one new piece of literature will be reviewed every other week. The dates and time for this program are:

June 30th

July 14th

July 28th

August 11th

Time: 12:00 noon – 2:00 pm

Regarding the decision to develop the Virtual Book Club Program, Director of Programs and Services Patricia Hanson-Staples notes,

“It is not only my job to think of ways to engage our students, educators, families and volunteers in meaningful and beneficial ways through SSV’s programs and services, it is also my passion. When we had to take a break from our Read Aloud program due to Covid-19 restrictions, we knew it was time to go back into the archives of staff meeting notes and activate some ‘think tank treasures.’  As a staff, we are poised and pleased to make this summer experience one that all participating youths will want to repeat, next year and in years to come.  We hope that the students and families will see the value in this great summer resource and take full advantage of it.”
