Just one hour a week can make a difference in the life of a young student. Volunteers encourage students and inspire them to reach their potential.

Thank you for your interest! We are currently in need of Read Aloud Volunteers at all participating schools, and we are always accepting applications for our other programs. Ghida Khamis El-Banna

Role: Mentor & Tutor

Ghida has impacted the lives of young people by sharing her experiences.

Name: Ghida Khamis El-Banna

I am a Mentor and Tutor at: Kensington International School.

I have been a Springfield School Volunteer for: Two years.

I became a volunteer because: I felt that I had some tools and skills to share such as the Arabic language and my experiences as a refugee.

By volunteering I have learned:  I have learned to appreciate the things that I have and the recognize the importance of the work I do with the little kids because it helps shape their lives. I have also learned how to be an ally and a friend with kids who have similar life experiences to mine or come from a disadvantaged or oppressive community.

My favorite thing about volunteering is:  When I come back to the school for a new year the students warmly greet me and remember all the good things we did together.

Why should another caring person in the community join you as a mentor? Other volunteers should join us because we work really hard to empower young kids.They will see the students growing and learning effectively. It is very rewarding!
